Audiologists
Audiologists have advanced university degrees (either a Master’s or Doctorate) in Audiology, specializing in the study of hearing disorders and rehabilitation. In Ontario, Audiologists are required to be registered with the College of Audiologists and Speech Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO). Audiologists provide comprehensive diagnostic hearing evaluations. If hearing loss is present, they will determine the type and degree of hearing impairment, and the specific treatment needed which might include prescribing and fitting hearing aids. In addition, other rehabilitation strategies might be recommended to address lifestyle needs including the use of assistive listening devices, speech reading and listening skills training or the recommendation for further medical referral through the family physician.
